FERAL/COMMUNTIY CAT POLICY

All feral/community cats are to be tested for both FIV and FeLV viruses at client expense.

FIV POSITIVE

All FIV positive feral/community cats will be surgically altered unless they are considered too ill to undergo surgery. All clients of FIV positive feral/community cats who are deemed too ill to undergo surgery will be contacted immediately and informed of our decision by a Clinic Manager or Director of Operations and given the option to euthanize. All FIV positive feral/community cats who are deemed too ill to undergo surgery and are not euthanized under client orders will be returned to the client. All FIV positive feral/community cats who are euthanized under client orders will be disposed of at client expense.

All FIV positive feral/community cats who are healthy enough to undergo surgery will be altered and returned to the client without exception. Verbal and/or printed information about FIV will be provided to the client upon release.

FeLV POSITIVE

All FeLV positive feral/community cats will be surgically altered unless they are considered too ill to undergo surgery. All clients of FeLV positive feral/community cats who are deemed too ill to undergo surgery will be contacted immediately and informed of our decision by a Clinic Manager or Director of Operations and given the option to euthanize. ALL FERAL/COMMUNITY CATS

To ensure the safety of all animals in our care, the safety of Golden State Humane Society staff, and the efficiency of our high-volume flow, all feral/community cats must be contained in a humane trap prior to admittance without exception.

To ensure the safety of all animals in our care, the safety of Golden State Humane Society staff, and the efficiency of our high-volume flow, all cats must be in separate traps (exceptions are sometimes made for young kittens). If it is not possible to separate two cats/kittens who are in one trap, an additional trap must be provided to us for recovery purposes. If an additional trap is not provided, we will charge a $110 deposit for one of our traps and the deposit will be refunded upon the return of our trap.

Feral/community kittens must be at least 2 months/2 pounds at Long Beach and 2 months/3 pounds at Garden Grove.

All feral cats are to be clearly ear-tipped without exception. Ear-tipping helps identify cats who are already altered.

Golden State Humane Society defines a feral/community cat as homeless and unadoptable.
